General Transp Tech II (Stanton)
Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a General Transportation Tech II for their Stanton Maintenance Section. The role involves performing transportation operations and maintenance support work, including roadway maintenance, heavy equipment operation, and assisting in traffic control and emergency situations.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project
Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Maintains construction project records and/or bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures
Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites
Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yard or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck
Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products
Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems
Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications
Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, and total survey station
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Qualification
Required
1 year transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience
Valid driver's license
Must obtain a Commercial Class 'A' Driver's License or have obtained a CDL 'A' License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment
Must have or obtain an 'N' endorsement within 30 days of hire or within 30 days of receiving a Class 'A' CDL
US Military CDL Equivalent Conditions of Employment: US Military License candidates must successfully obtain Texas Class 'A' CDL within 120 days of employment
Preferred
Commercial Driver's License
Concrete work experience placing forms, pouring and finishing concrete work
