Technician B Electro - Mechanical
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is seeking a Technician B Electro-Mechanical to support operations, maintenance, fabrication, and repair of complex electro-mechanical systems at Haystack Observatory. Cryogenically cooled receiver systems
Fabricating many types of cables, i.e. Communications, Rf, Fiber Optics
Qualification
Required
Graduation from a two-year day technical school or its equivalent in applicable experience
Experience integrating and repairing electro-mechanical systems and equipment
Familiarity with machine shop equipment and tools
General mechanical systems knowledge and experience with mechanical maintenance and assembly using hand and power tools
Ability to use basic technician tools, i.e. soldering iron, DVM, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer
Familiarity with machine shop equipment and tools, i.e. Drill Press, Sanders, milling machines, lathe, and computer-based instrumentation
Willingness to support antenna operations on overtime shifts and occasional travel to field sites
Ability to occasionally work a flexible schedule as maintenance and operational responsibilities may involve working after hours, different shifts, weekends, and occasional holidays
Be comfortable working with computer systems in a variety of configurations (Windows, Linux, embedded computers)
Ability to follow instructions, and work in a technically diverse and physically challenging work environment
Ability to lift 50 lbs. as part of mechanical maintenance activities
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team
The applicant must pass a tower climbing physical and be willing and able to climb towers
Must be a U.S. citizen who is able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Preferred
Working knowledge of digital and analog circuitry
Experience with radar and radio systems or amateur radio
