Locum Consultant Neurologist (with interest in epilepsy)

They are seeking a Locum Consultant Neurologist with a focus on epilepsy to contribute to the acute and general out-patient neurology service, including a share of the out of hours service, and to support the specialist epilepsy service.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the acute and general out-patient neurology service at the RVI, including a share of the out of hours service, and to support the specialist epilepsy service
Provide a general neurology service, comprising acute and elective outpatient and inpatient work, including a share of the out of hours on-call, and will take part in the provision of a specialist service in epilepsy
Commitment to a local DGH, covering general neurology, epilepsy and inpatient liaison one day a week
Participate in weekly MDTs with the neurophysiology department to review EEGs, and attend twice monthly epilepsy surgery meetings
Extend contribution to the neuro-oncology team in the trust, and lead on regional liaison with the neurofibromatosis service

Primary Medical Qualification
Full GMC Registration
Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC)
Training and experience in all aspects of Neurology
Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion for general neurology
Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre
Ability to manage and advice on complex epilepsy in a regional centre – outpatient and inpatient including intensive care
Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty
Evidence of involvement in authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines
An understanding of Clinical Governance
Experience of supervising junior medical staff
Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Ability to teach clinical / technical / practical skills
Evidence of involvement in and understanding of research methodology and publication of findings
Research/critical review of literature
Publications in the last five years
Evidence of participation in audit

Preferred

MD, PhD or equivalent, ideally with a focus on epilepsy
Evidence of sub-specialty experience or training in epilepsy
Interest and experience in epilepsy e.g. specialist fellowship or further post-CST training in epilepsy
An interest in epilepsy liaison with neuro-oncology or a willingness to develop the same
Proven management and administrative experience and understanding of management goals
Evidence of leadership / project management
Evidence of having implemented change
Experience in developing and implementing new technologies
Attendance at courses to develop teaching skills
Postgraduate qualification in medical education
Higher degree
Evidence of having changed practice as a result of audit
Evidence of having revisited the audit to assess improvement
