The Data Science Intern will contribute to Advanced Process Data Analytics projects by designing, building, and evaluating data solutions that transform raw manufacturing data into actionable insights.

Responsibilities

Data engineering & preparation: ingest, clean, and join sensor/mesoscale datasets in Databricks; implement validation and data quality checks
Statistical process analysis: apply SPC, capability studies, and time-series methods to detect drift and instability; communicate findings to process owners
Visualization & reporting: build clear notebooks/dashboards for operators/engineers; document assumptions, data lineage, and model limits
Collaboration: work with process engineers, manufacturing SMEs, and DT to prioritize backlogs and translate requirements into analytics deliverables

Required

Currently pursuing a BS/MS in Data Science, Industrial/Process/Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field
Coursework/projects in probability & statistics, data structures, and introductory ML
Practical experience with Python and SQL; familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative workflows
Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May 27th – July 31st, 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity
Be willing to work at the posted job location

Preferred

Exposure to Spark/Databricks and cloud data platforms (Azure/AWS); interest in lakehouse architectures
Knowledge of SPC and process-control concepts; prior work in a lab or manufacturing setting
Basic understanding of MLOps practices (reproducibility, validation, monitoring)
