Chief of Staff- Algonkian District Supervisor

Loudoun County Government has been named one of Forbes' 2025 Best Large Employers. The Chief of Staff (CoS) manages the day-to-day work of the district office for the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, overseeing operations, legislative initiatives, and community engagement efforts.

Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day office operations, manage multiple direct reports and the district office budget
Serve as Supervisor’s strategic advisor; develop and implement robust legislative and community engagement agenda
Develop strong working relationships with counterparts in other district offices, senior county staff, and external organizations with an eye to build innovative and strategic partnerships
Manage Supervisor’s email inbox
Work with County Administration leadership and senior department leaders as needed to accomplish office priorities and address constituent concerns
Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, Homeowners Associations and civic groups, local businesses, land use developers, policy advocates, and key constituent groups
Collaborate with regional partners, neighboring jurisdictions, and other thought-leaders
Prepare thorough briefings on all matters related to BOS business
Draft, research, and analyze potential local legislation
Drafting, editing, and researching talking points, remarks, and speeches for a variety of audiences
Track and manage constituent concerns; act as a first line of contact between the public and the Supervisor
Direct expansive community outreach program, including and annual mailer, weekly email newsletters, social media content, town halls, community office hours, and attendance at community events
Strategically attend community events representing the Supervisor
Coordinate with state and federal elected officials and agencies as needed

Required

Education level: bachelor's degree preferably in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration or similar field
Minimum of two years' experience with an elected official's office, government agency, legislative policy, or other relevant experience
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite of programs required
Experience with database, website management as well as Canva preferred
Preferred candidate is pro-active and will bring new ideas to the discussion
They will be comfortable working in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment
Additionally, they should be comfortable engaging with diverse people and views as this is often a public-facing role
Preferred candidates must be detail-oriented and proficient in multi-tasking as they are expected to manage multiple projects at a time
Preferred candidates must be comfortable speaking on behalf of the Supervisor and able to think quickly on their feet
Candidates must be comfortable with a non-traditional 9-5 role, including working occasional evenings and weekends
This is a full-time role
Candidates are expected to reliably commute to Leesburg, Sterling, and Ashburn on a regular basis (permanent office is in Leesburg)
This position is considered hybrid but requires regular in-office work
This is a political position that serves at the pleasure of the Supervisor

Preferred

Experience with database, website management as well as Canva preferred
Spanish language fluency a plus
