Responsibilities
Conduct initial consultations with prospective clients and provide clear legal guidance on bankruptcy options
Manage a caseload of Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy matters from filing through discharge or completion
Review and approve bankruptcy petitions, schedules, statements, and Chapter 13 plans
Appear at and represent clients in: 341 Meetings of Creditors, Confirmation hearings, and Motions, objections and other bankruptcy-related hearings
Review and analyze financial documents, including income, tax returns, pay stubs, and creditor claims
Communicate with clients, trustees, opposing counsel, and court personnel to resolve legal issues and move cases forward
Oversee paralegal and support staff assigned to cases to ensure accuracy, deadlines, and compliance
Ensure compliance with federal and local bankruptcy rules and procedures
Draft and review motions, objections, amendments, and other pleadings
Utilize bankruptcy and case management software (e.g., Best Case, Lawmatics, CM/ECF)
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction and in good standing
Minimum 2 years of experience handling consumer bankruptcy matters (Chapter 13 required; Chapter 7 preferred)
Strong working knowledge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and local bankruptcy rules
Experience appearing in bankruptcy court and handling contested matters
Proficiency with CM/ECF and bankruptcy software (e.g., Best Case, Lawmatics)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
Client-focused mindset with a compassionate and professional demeanor
Bar (Required)
Preferred
Experience with both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases
Bilingual (Spanish/English or other) a plus
Experience negotiating with creditors and trustees
Ability to mentor and supervise paralegals or junior staff
