Bus Training Maintenance Instructor

Responsibilities
Consults with the Human Resource Management and Planning staff to identify resources needed for the training program
Assists in the selection of personnel for positions in similar areas of expertise
Collaborates with other team members to help prepare for classes
Prepares training class materials
Conducts classroom and practical maintenance training for all bus maintenance personnel
Conducts divisional training
Lectures students using power points and other teaching aids to increase efficiency and effectiveness
Schedules training sessions based on availability of classrooms, equipment, or instructors
Supervises trainees while they are under the control of the Training Branch
Ensures entry level and reoccurring training is delivered to provide employees the skills required for technical excellence
Evaluates student performance in a training program
Grades all trainees' tests
Certifies that employees have successfully completed the required training program(s)
Maintains all paperwork for class activities and delivers it to the supervisor at the end of the course
Provides supervisor with all employee grades and attendance records
Assists in operational training programs as required
Participates in budget preparation for training programs to ensure budgetary targets are maintained and to better support the Authority strategies, programs, and initiatives
Communicates with supervisors to determine effectiveness of training and compliance with policies and procedures
Makes recommendations on improvements to the training program
Reviews how to do all hands-on activities to accurately demonstrate to students
Reviews materials to make sure information is presented correctly and accurately
Demonstrates correct bus equipment maintenance procedures
Develops maintenance policies and procedures
Inspects all completed work to verify conformance to standards or repair requirements
Inspects trainees' work areas, tools and equipment
Investigates accidents or injuries and prepares reports of findings
Counsels employees about work-related issues and helps correct job-skill deficiencies
Recommends or initiates personnel actions such as promotions, discharges, or disciplinary measures
Maintains and promotes awareness and accountability with safety policies and procedures while performing job functions
Promotes a positive safety culture and encourages reporting of safety concerns consistent with our Agency Safety Plan, other regulatory requirements within the Safety Management System and just culture principles
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or possession of a general equivalency diploma (GED), supplemented by advanced formal training in the principles and operation of diesel and gasoline engines, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical systems or related field
A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible bus maintenance experience in presenting an automotive/diesel maintenance program or experience in mentoring and guiding team members in an automotive/diesel maintenance program or related field
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) with proper endorsements from jurisdiction of residence or the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Learner Permit prior to hire date, and the ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) with proper endorsements from jurisdiction of residence within 90 days of hire
