Credit Underwriter - Corporate AgFinance
Farmer Mac is seeking an accomplished Credit Underwriter to join its Corporate AgFinance team. This role involves comprehensive analysis, underwriting, and ongoing monitoring of credit transactions to ensure high standards of credit quality for diverse clients in the agribusiness sector.

Responsibilities
Serve as a primary contributor in the underwriting and portfolio management process, acting as a direct point of contact for clients during structuring and underwriting phases
Conduct thorough reviews and analyses of complex transactions involving large corporate food and agribusiness entities, as well as vertically integrated production agriculture operations
Evaluate a range of deal structures, including cash flow-based loans (e.g., leveraged loans, term loan B), asset-based lending facilities, and other collateral-dependent instruments
Assess financial condition and repayment capacity of borrowers, utilizing historical, current, and projected data
Identify and articulate key risks and mitigants associated with each credit request
Oversee risk rating assessments and ongoing portfolio management, including covenant compliance, financial performance, and maturity tracking
Monitor credit quality and ensure accurate risk ratings
Prepare and deliver credit presentations, providing recommendations for new or incremental credit exposure to the Credit Committee
Collaborate with Relationship Managers, Transaction Management, Loan Operations, and Legal to facilitate transaction closings
Attend lender meetings and interact with arrangers during credit assessment and documentation review
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of agribusiness industry trends through research and conference participation
Demonstrate a strong understanding of financial markets, economic conditions, and competitive dynamics
Qualification
Required
Minimum of five (5) years' experience in credit and lending
Ability to analyze the current, historical, and projected financial condition and repayment capacity of borrowers
Evaluate the validity of borrower business plans based on assessments of industry outlooks, competition, technology, management, and overall capital structure
Self-starter, able to work and complete various and recurring tasks timely and thoughtfully
Ability to work with minimal supervision within one's field of expertise
Active and efficient communicator
Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative credit analysis, enterprise valuation, and legal documentation review
Experience with cash flow lending, ideally within the food and agribusiness sector
Advanced analytical skills for addressing complex, non-standardized credit scenarios
Ability to handle deal opportunities largely autonomously, including sensitizing financial models, calculation financial ratios, reviewing third-party reports, and strong understanding of loan documents
Knowledge of industry dynamics and KPIs within the food and agribusiness sectors
Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Moody's Analytics, Moody's CreditLens, and Salesforce
Demonstrated work ethic, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently and efficiently
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or an equivalent/relevant program
Minimum of five (5) years of credit underwriting experience, preferably with formal credit training
