Cabrini | Lead Attorney (CVP/FVP/GI/HAP)

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is looking for a Lead Attorney to join their Cabrini Center leadership team. This role involves providing training and mentorship to the legal team while representing clients in immigration matters and developing expertise in immigration law.

Responsibilities

Provide direct representation to immigrant clients before the USCIS, Asylum Office or Immigration Court on a range of immigration matters
Maintain client physical and electronic files according to program requirements, including case notes, correspondence, filings, calendars, and dockets
Attendance and participation in mandatory unit and Cabrini staff meetings, and other agency meetings
Comply with all contract requirements
Participate in charlas by presenting and performing legal consultations
Provide day-to-day leadership for the legal team comprising staff attorneys, law fellows, paralegals, administrative clerks, and interns under the supervision and mentorship of the Senior Attorney
Develop expertise in general immigration law, including but not limited to family petitions, adjustment of status, waivers of inadmissibility, naturalization, DACA, Temporary Protected Status, removal defense, and other immigration relief
Identify policy issues and coordinate with other units within Cabrini Center and the immigration bar in advancing advocacy agenda to promote immigrant rights
Work with Cabrini leadership to evaluate program efficacy and engage in priority setting in line with community needs
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree from an ABA accredited law school
Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas; or have an active license from another U.S. jurisdiction and be eligible to waive into the State Bar of Texas within 12 months of hire
One (1) year experience in Immigration Law

Preferred

Excellent legal research and writing skills
Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills
Ability to handle a high-volume caseload, multiple deadlines, and other tasks simultaneously
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office
Experience working with immigrant community an asset
Demonstrated multi-cultural understanding and experience
