Lead Data Scientist

Responsibilities
Join a multi-disciplinary team at the forefront of developing, validating, and implementing machine learning-based tools into clinical practice to positively impact patient outcomes
Work under the direction of physician and scientific Investigators to lead research projects in targeted areas of potential clinical value
Help drive translation of rigorously validated models into clinical care
Leverage multi-modal datasets, such as electronic medical records, medical imaging, text-based clinical notes, and advanced data science techniques, including deep learning, to detect undiagnosed disease, predict patient outcomes, and enable opportunistic screening
Develop models to improve hospital operations and efficiency
Work collaboratively with clinicians, scientists, engineers, and business development teams, including researchers from Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medical College, in the execution of these goals from end-to-end of model development, validation, and implementation
Participate in research dissemination activities, including publication in top peer-reviewed journals and presentation at local and national scientific and industry conferences
Be responsible for developing and implementing a research and data science agenda that advances and evaluates NYP’s initiatives for enhancing healthcare value
Establish collaborations with researchers from Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medical College
Identify projects that are most relevant to the institution and also of interest to a national audience
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field; or equivalent experience
8+ years of experience in data science and advanced analytics with proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R and SQL
5+ years experience with version control systems like Git, including workflows for collaboration and code management
1+ years experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for data science projects
Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes to automate testing and deployment of data science models
Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into data solutions
Thorough understanding of data architecture and modeling; proven experience to elicit requirements and develop constructs in conceptual and logical data models to support business
Expertise in statistical methods, hypothesis testing, A/B testing and experimental design
Deep understanding of feature engineering and model evaluation metrics in the context of supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, including regression, classification, clustering and reinforcement learning
Strong knowledge of machine learning frameworks (e.g., Sklearn, Tensorflow, PyTorch)
Experience working closely with non-technical stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into data-driven solutions
Proficiency in presenting complex data insights in a clear and compelling manner
Drive data science projects independently from concept to execution
Knowledge and interest in operationalizing data science technologies and solutions by implementing a scalable and reproducible process in production environments
Proven capability to mentor junior data scientists, providing guidance in technical skills and best practices in data science methodologies
Assertive (yet diplomatic) personality and the ability to handle change; excellent written & oral communication
Familiarity with the regulatory environment affecting data in a Health Care Services environment (e.g., HIPAA 5010)
Process modeling experience
Understanding of Big Data paradigm and NoSQL databases
Candidates need to work well in extended project teams with little oversight
Preferred
Master's or Doctoral degree or PhD
Established track record of peer-reviewed publications, other academic research output and/or developing healthcare technologies
Experience working with clinical, imaging, signals or multimodal data and applying AI to solve problems in Medicine
