Combustion Engineer - Industrial Gas Systems
Chicago Dryer Company is a third-generation, family-owned manufacturer of automated flatwork finishing equipment for commercial laundries. In this role, you will focus on the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of gas-heated ironer systems, driving improvements in combustion performance, efficiency, emissions, safety, and reliability.
Responsibilities
Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot combustion systems and gas-heated ironers
Improve heat-transfer efficiency and overall thermal performance
Diagnose issues related to burner harmonics, ignition, flame stability, heat output, and gas delivery
Evaluate new heating methods (direct and indirect) using natural gas and LP
Support new product development, design upgrades, and field improvements
Work with electrical and controls engineers on burner control, flame detection, ignition systems, and safety interlocks
Analyze air/fuel ratios, combustion efficiency, emissions reduction, and thermal performance
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams to ensure reliability and manufacturability
Interpret and apply applicable standards (UL, CSA, ETL, NFPA, etc.)
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline
5+ years of experience with combustion systems, industrial burners, thermal systems, or gas-fired equipment
Strong understanding of heat transfer, combustion theory, and burner design
Experience with burner control systems, gas trains, instrumentation, and safety interlocks
Familiarity with industry standards (UL, ETL, CSA, NFPA)
Preferred
ASME or pressure-vessel experience a plus (not required)
