POST Basic Training Specialist
The State of Utah's Department of Public Safety is seeking a POST Basic Training Specialist to manage the development and implementation of basic training programs for law enforcement cadets. This role involves overseeing curriculum management, supervising instructors, and ensuring compliance with training standards.

Responsibilities
Curriculum Management: Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop, review, and maintain a comprehensive basic training curriculum
Scenario Supervision: Oversee tactical exercises to ensure adherence to safety protocols and training standards
Technique Demonstration: Maintaining the physical fitness necessary to demonstrate techniques and participate directly in training exercises
Active Evaluation: Observing practical training sessions to monitor quality and provide immediate feedback to trainees and adjunct instructors
Instructional Oversight: Recruit, evaluate, and supervise adjunct instructors to ensure instructional quality and adherence to policy
Logistics & Scheduling: Manage complex training schedules for concurrent academy sessions, including resource allocation and facility coordination
Cadet Discipline: Direct morning formations and daily accountability checks to instill professional discipline
Performance Remediation: Identify cadets performing below the 80% benchmark and implement formal Action Plans
Equipment Management: Supervise the issuance and maintenance of essential equipment, including firearms and duty gear
Compliance: Maintain accurate program records and conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with Utah POST Council standards
Instructional Requirements: Provide direct classroom instruction and training on various topics, including:
Core Law Enforcement Topics: Teaching basic courses such as report writing, interview and interrogation, and de-escalation tactics
Leading and managing hands-on training environments in the classroom
Qualification
Required
Must be a certified Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) in the state of Utah with a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a LEO OR be able to obtain a Utah POST waiver or reactivation to certify as a LEO in the state of Utah with a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a certified LEO
Preferred
Extensive experience in law enforcement and proven experience in program management or instructional design
Hold current Utah POST Instructor Certifications in Firearms, Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVO), Defensive Tactics (DT), and Instructor Development
Superior communication and leadership skills with a deep understanding of legal considerations surrounding use of force
The ability to remain calm under pressure and resolve conflicts using emotional intelligence
Must be willing to reside within 50 miles of the Sandy POST Building
