Platform Release Manager
Air Force Civilian Service is seeking a Platform Release Manager to support the Digital Transformation Activity at Headquarters Air Force. The role involves managing full-cycle software releases, coordinating schedules and resources, and evaluating emerging technologies to ensure successful delivery of IT services.
Responsibilities
Rely on your experience in full‑cycle software releases from planning through deployment
Coordinate release schedules, dependencies, and resources across multiple teams
Identify risks, assess impacts, and drive mitigation plans
Analyze complex technical environments
Recommend improvements
Prepare technical documentation
Brief leadership on release status and system requirements
Work in environments with limited or evolving guidance
Independently manage multiple concurrent releases
Maintain alignment with enterprise schedules, vendor updates, and third‑party integrations
Influence stakeholders, negotiate priorities, and resolve issues
Evaluate emerging technologies
Conduct feasibility studies and cost‑benefit analyses
Support structured project management methodologies to ensure successful delivery
Qualification
Required
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
Knowledge of a wide range of IT principles, concepts, and methods
Knowledge of the organization's policy and planning formulation process along with its missions and objectives to prepare IT policies and plans
Knowledge of budgetary processes, cost-benefit analysis methods, and analysis of performance data to prepare persuasive budget recommendations in support of IT requirements
Knowledge of system architecture, integration techniques, and testing methods
Ability to analyze complexities of existing technology, review/revise/develop policy, initiate plans for enhancements, and provide management sufficient technical and cost analysis information, through written documentation and oral briefings, to render informed judgments
Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements
Preferred
Experience with configuration management, CI/CD pipelines, or automation tools used in software deployment
Experience coordinating across large organizations (e.g., enterprise IT, federal agencies, or multi‑component environments)
Experience conducting feasibility studies, cost‑benefit analyses, or technology evaluations
Experience developing or improving release management processes, standards, or governance models
Familiarity with Department of War (DoW, Air Force, or federal IT policies, planning processes, and compliance requirements
Experience working with release engineers to manage code merges, branching strategies, and deployment sequencing
Salesforce Certified Advanced Administrator (SCAA)

Cyberspace Qualification is a condition of employment. This position includes Cyberspace work as a paramount duty requirement. Per Department of Defense Manual (DoDM) 8140.03, para 4.2.a.(2)., requires foundational qualification requirements within 9 months of assignment to a cyberspace work role and resident qualification requirements within 12 months of assignment to a cyberspace work role. A waiver of these requirements may be granted per DoDM 8140.03. Failure to achieve and maintain the proper Cyberspace Qualification may result in removal from this position
