Patent Specialist/Intellectual Property
The Goodkind Group, LLC is a top law firm located in Newark, New Jersey, seeking a Patent Specialist to support their intellectual property practice. The role involves preparing and filing patent and trademark documents, managing attorney dockets, and handling client billing and travel arrangements.
Responsibilities
Prepare, revise, and finalize a wide range of intellectual property (IP) documents, including U.S. and foreign patent and trademark prosecution filings
Perform electronic filing (e-filing) with the USPTO and other domestic and international patent and trademark offices, ensuring compliance with applicable rules and deadlines
Draft, edit, and proofread legal correspondence, filings, and supporting documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to firm standards
Maintain and manage attorney dockets, accurately calendaring deadlines and proactively monitoring upcoming filing and response dates
Respond to incoming telephone calls, route calls to appropriate staff, and take detailed and accurate messages as needed
Process client billing, including proofing billing sheets, reviewing and editing invoices, and coordinating with attorneys and accounting staff to ensure accuracy
Coordinate and arrange attorney travel, including reservations and itineraries; prepare and submit expense reports in compliance with firm policies
Handle daily mailing, scanning, and filing responsibilities, including organizing physical and electronic files in accordance with firm procedures
Provide backup support and assistance to other Patent Assistants within the practice group as needed
Photocopy, scan, collate, and assemble documents for client mailings, court filings, and internal use
Compile, organize, and assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and internal documentation
Qualification
Required
Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Legal Assistant in the patent and intellectual property field
Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. and foreign patent and trademark prosecution procedures
Strong experience preparing IP-related documents and performing USPTO e-filings
Advanced proofreading and editing skills, with close attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven legal environment
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
Excellent oral and written communication skills and a professional demeanor
Demonstrated ability to work independently
