The role involves supporting patients and staff in Outpatient Recovery by assisting with patient transport, providing snacks and drinks, and performing various errands as needed.

Responsibilities

Transport patients from PACU when discharged to the cafeteria, outpatient pharmacy, etc. when needed
Act as a guide for patients and families assisting in giving directions
Provide drinks and snacks with the RN’s ok to patients
Get wheelchairs when necessary
Assist in finding patient’s family members
Pick up orders from dietary, such as straws, crackers when necessary
Run errands, such as, getting copies made, linen bags when running low
Help answer phones
Enter transport tickets into computer at the nurse’s request
Enter computer request for valet call ahead
Makes sure wheelchairs are wiped down and returned to the alcove located on the floor where volunteer is assigned
Communicates with staff to incorporate this duty into the daily tasks
Clean and fill charts
Wipe down high-touch areas
Pick up lunches from cafeteria for observation patients, and place in the OBS unit refrigerator
Restock dietary supplies
Return menu to dietary
Put together charts for procedure suite surgery patients

Required

Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Ability to lift up to 20lbs
Must be able to comprehend and communicate oral and written instructions in English
Have good interpersonal skills and communicate clearly and directly
Be mature, dependable and reliable
Maintain a good attitude
Be caring, empathetic and non-judgmental
Maintain weekly attendance
