Engineering COE/Technology Manager

The Engineering COE/Technology Manager will guide the planning and actions required for the manufacturing deployment of a new optical fiber coating system, collaborating closely with teams to ensure successful program execution.

Responsibilities
Serve as an equal partner with Commercial & Technology to create and manage shared understanding of program hypothesis, business case and related core assumptions
Collaborate with shared objectives, metrics and deliverables
Pull mentality” for bringing innovation into manufacturing, with effective checks/balances for safety, quality, delivery and cost
Ensure corporate, division, and/or local innovation processes are followed and effective, including MIE playbook, PQA, NPI, decision processes, etc
Leverage other knowledge experts and SMEs to support project
Participate in the MIE community of practice
Interpret manufacturing needs for low and high-volume phases of program, influence program priorities to ensure creating viable manufacturing operations that leads to a successful business
Ensure product design, process design and manufacturing systems are able to achieve the targeted performance in Quality, Cost, Capacity (Delivery) and Safety
Define and deliver Operational readiness for the site(s) and location(s) required to deliver products and services to the customer
Develop appropriate start-up plans, pilot operations, and/or subsequent scale up plans that are able to make what the customer wants, when they want it, recognizing changes in scale may require changes to process, manufacturing systems, or locations
Integrate detail from Plan of Record to recognize product generational changes over time
Ensure high-volume scale-up operations can comply with Achieving Manufacturing Excellence Level 1 criteria
Qualification
Required
B.S. in Chemical engineering or other engineering degree with experience in chemical process or polymer manufacturing
10+ years of manufacturing experience including leadership experience with at least 3 years of experience in chemical process or polymer manufacturing
Practical chemical process and engineering knowledge in high volume manufacturing environment
Ability to work with ambiguity, ability to make and manage assumptions
Ability to develop and communicate a strategic view and integrate multiple sources of input
Strong team and influence skills within business; ability to influence plant/program priority and resource alignment to enable key deliverables
Recognize and be effective across culture shifts in the innovation life cycle, including flexibility and high learning in early stage to building stronger discipline in later stages
Strong communication skills, to share manufacturing readiness to steering teams and project team members and division leadership
Demonstrate extreme ownership: ability to work past defining challenges and obstacles and lead the team to determine a path and overcome them
Preferred
Operations experience: having held responsibility for planning and executing customer orders to on-time delivery. Experience working effectively with ERP, MES, and logistics systems
Innovation experience: Experience as plant receiver or start-up lead for new polymer development and deployment into manufacturing. Understanding of innovation processes, tools
Technology experience: appropriate understanding of process/quality/equipment engineering areas needed to support program delivery
Understanding of manufacturing and system capabilities: PQA, PEx, MEE, KT, Lean, Cost analysis, Capacity analysis, industry Quality and/or Regulatory requirements. Project management skills to manage complex projects with multiple workstreams, on time, on budget
