Mechanical Engineering Lead
Ultimate Staffing is partnering with a leading power solutions company to recruit for a Mechanical Engineering Lead to join their fast growing organization in Irvine. This role involves leading a mechanical engineering team in developing power converters, overseeing design activities, and driving technical strategy.
Responsibilities
Lead a mechanical engineering team in developing power converters from concept through volume production, ensuring designs meet performance, cost, and reliability targets
Oversee mechanical design activities including thermal simulations, DFMEA, GD&T analysis, stress analysis, and design verification testing
Drive technical strategy, product architecture decisions, and R&D initiatives
Lead root cause analysis, resolve technical issues, and ensure proper documentation practices
Maintain strong collaboration with internal engineering teams to ensure cohesive design and development outcomes
Manage team performance, project schedules, and resource allocation to meet business objectives and product timelines
Conduct design reviews and ensure adherence to DfX guidelines
Work closely with international manufacturing teams during development and early production phases to optimize yield and manufacturability
Hire, mentor, develop, and retain engineering talent within the mechanical engineering team
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree within Mechanical Engineering, Master's degree a plus
8-10 years of relevant design experience within the power industry or related industry
2-3 years of management experience
Strong hands-on mechanical engineering skills with the ability to contribute directly to design work when needed
Experience with mechanical packaging for electronic equipment, including conceptual design, solid modeling, 3D assemblies, cable harnesses, sheet metal, and machined parts
Proficiency in SolidWorks, Pro‑E/Creo, and AutoCAD
Familiarity with thermal management principles, stress analysis, DFMEA, and GD&T
Demonstrated project management capability and experience driving engineering deliverables
Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining high design quality and meeting deadlines
