Legal Intern (Legal Aide)
NYS Division of Human Rights is the state agency tasked with enforcing New York's Human Rights Law. The Summer Legal Intern will work closely with attorneys and investigators to assist with legal and investigatory tasks related to discrimination complaints, gaining hands-on experience in civil rights law.

Responsibilities
Assist with legal research and analysis related to civil rights, discrimination law, and ongoing investigations and/or policy and legislation
Draft memoranda, reports, and summaries related to discrimination complaints and investigations
Support attorneys with case preparation, including reviewing and analyzing evidence, witness statements, and legal precedents
Observe and participate in meetings and hearings, including those related to the investigation and resolution of discrimination complaints
Prepare written recommendations and assist in preparing case files for litigation or settlement
Engage in public outreach and educational efforts, including developing informational materials or presentations
Attend training sessions and seminars to enhance understanding of New York State Human Rights Law and civil rights protections
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled in an accredited law school, with a demonstrated interest in civil rights, employment law, or public interest law
Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Commitment to public service and social justice
Preferred
Familiarity with New York State Human Rights Law and anti-discrimination statutes is a plus but not required
