Senior AI Advisor
The Maryland Department of Information Technology is seeking a visionary leader to serve as a Senior AI Advisor, responsible for enhancing the use of AI across State agencies to improve government operations. This role involves facilitating collaboration among various stakeholders and ensuring the State's AI initiatives are effectively executed to meet the Governor's priorities.

Responsibilities
Facilitate and strengthen the State’s AI Subcabinet, an agenda-setting and cross-agency governing body created by statute, along with its spinoff workgroups, ensuring it is well-positioned to help execute the Governor’s priorities related to AI
Partner with the Department of Commerce, the Governor’s Innovation Team, and other stakeholders to coordinate and drive economic growth efforts related to AI technologies
Partner with the Department of Labor, the Department of Budget and Management, and other stakeholders to coordinate and drive workforce efforts related to AI
Lead the Department of Information Technology’s (DoIT) efforts to ensure strong cross-functional collaboration around AI across its deployment, governance, and policy-focused teams: the Office of Security Management, the Office of Enterprise Architecture, the Maryland Digital Service, the Office of Enterprise Data, the Office of Business Operations, the Office of Platform and Client Services, and the Office of Infrastructure
Strengthen mechanisms, such as the AI Community of Practice, to increase AI literacy and collaboration statewide
Support the Governor’s Office in AI-related partnership efforts
Partner with communications and legislative affairs offices around official policies, media inquiries, and introducing, monitoring, or responding to legislation
Perceive gaps, risks, and opportunities across the State’s AI efforts and develop strategies to address them
Qualification
Required
At least five years in a senior leadership role within a large, complex, interdependent organization that includes AI, engineering, product, design, legal, policy, and related functions
An intrinsically collaborative, pragmatic systems thinker with a bias for action who can be entrepreneurial in the context of government - structuring ambiguity, maintaining agency and urgency in challenging environments, and often leading or influencing without direct authority
A deep understanding of the “art of the possible” with AI/ML technologies, what it takes to make them work in enterprise environments, points of view on upcoming trends and capabilities, and the networks and thirst for learning to stay up-to-date on advances and best practices
A strong understanding of the evolving micro and macro risks inherent to AI/ML technologies
Strong communications and writing skills, with the ability to break down complex and technical subject matter into what's important for different audiences
Preferred
Experience driving “0-to-1” and “1-to-10” AI efforts in government preferred, but not required
