Responsibilities
Lead and ensure high-quality design of protection schemes for T&D substations, data centers, industrial facilities, and BESS applications
Develop and review protection single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay settings
Lead local and remote design teams for Protection & Control (P&C) engineering deliverables
Evaluate interoperability, control features, and communication protocols of protection relays, including SCADA, cybersecurity, and telecom integration
Apply IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture in substation designs
Independently develop P&C drawings including logic diagrams, tripping matrices, auxiliary AC/DC systems, panel layouts, wiring, cable schedules, and BOMs
Coordinate with electrical layout engineers, relay settings engineers, commissioning teams, and field personnel
Interface with vendors and review technical documentation
Support customer technical discussions and issue resolution
Prepare P&C engineering estimates and equipment cost evaluations for proposals
Perform design calculations including battery sizing, voltage drop, auxiliary power systems, and CT/PT specifications
Support FAT, SAT, outage, cutover planning, field testing, and commissioning
Conduct peer reviews and constructability reviews of engineering deliverables
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, standards development, lessons learned, and department KPIs
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, tools, and safety standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (Power Systems preferred)
Minimum 5 years of experience in protection and control engineering for transmission, distribution, or generation substations (AIS & GIS)
Experience with protection schemes, relay selection, communications, and operational analysis
PE License or EIT with intent to obtain PE
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Ability to travel up to 20%, including international travel
Preferred
Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills
Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time-management abilities
Customer-facing experience with commercial awareness
Experience with power system software such as ETAP or Aspen OneLiner
Familiarity with NERC-CIP standards and cybersecurity requirements
Experience with technical problem-solving, Lean practices, and advanced secondary engineering
