Associate Director of Human Resources

South Asian Youth Action (SAYA) is one of New York City’s leading youth development organizations, dedicated to supporting students and reducing socio-economic disparities. The Director of Human Resources will support the HR needs of SAYA, including policy implementation, recruiting, hiring, compensation, benefits management, and staff engagement.

Responsibilities

Support the development and implementation of HR policies that promote a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace
Ensure SAYA’s compliance with federal, State and City legal requirements
Stay informed of HR trends and best practices through participation in professional networks
Coordinate the recruiting and selection process, assisting departments with job postings, interviews, and hiring recommendations
Build and maintain recruitment pipelines with colleges and other organizations
Oversee the onboarding process to ensure new hires are effectively integrated into the organization
Assist in the administration of compensation and benefits programs, ensuring they are equitable and competitive
Benchmark salary ranges and recommend adjustments as needed
Manage employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement, and leave programs, ensuring compliance with regulations
Support the implementation of a performance management system that aligns with SAYA’s values
Drive a culture of high-performance standards and continuous learning
Coach managers and supervisors on delivering meaningful feedback and goal setting
Develop and implement strategies to retain and develop employees who are top performers
Integrate career development into the broader talent management framework
Lead the development and facilitation of staff training sessions with support from the leadership team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and staff development needs
Organize professional development opportunities with external training organizations
Inform current employees about continuing education opportunities that may be of interest to them, such as graduate programs and fellowships
Conduct employee engagement surveys and exit interviews
Identify trends and present key findings and recommendations for organizational interventions that support change and growth
Organize staff appreciation and team building initiatives and events
Lead investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth
Build positive rapport with employees throughout SAYA

Required

Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience
Minimum of 7+ years in a talent/human resource role
Strong working knowledge of City, State and federal employment laws and regulations
Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills
Ability to analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple projects
Willingness to learn and grow with the organization
Belief in SAYA's mission

Preferred

Master's degree in business administration, Human Resources, Nonprofit Management
Knowledge of NYC nonprofit and youth development space a plus
Certification in HR (SHRM-CP or SCP/PHR/SPHR) preferred

Benefits

Paid Time Off: 25 days, plus 10 paid holidays
Leave: 12 weeks (60 days) fully paid FMLA leave
Benefits: Employer-sponsored medical coverage, with additional dental, vision, transit, and FSA options
Retirement: Employer sponsored plan with 1:1 match of employee’s contribution up to 3% of annual salary (capped at $16,000)
Additional Time Off: SAYA provides an additional week of paid time off between Christmas and New Year's, which is not deducted from PTO
