Senior Mechanical Engineer – Industrial Utilities & Plumbing

Responsibilities

Design and engineer industrial utility systems including steam, chilled water, heating hot water, compressed air, natural gas, and plumbing
Develop equipment sizing calculations, P&IDs, technical specifications, and datasheets
Specify and select major utility equipment such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressors, receivers, and tanks
Create and modify piping, material, and equipment specifications to support project requirements
Evaluate vendor proposals and bids and participate in factory acceptance testing
Support construction through field oversight, answering technical questions, reviewing submittals, and issuing field changes as needed
Lead system startup, commissioning, documentation, and turnover
Ensure all systems meet environmental, safety, building code, and regulatory requirements
Serve as the technical subject matter expert for utility systems across the site
Analyze existing infrastructure and redesign systems to support new or expanding operations
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and external partners across multiple projects

Required

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
10+ years of hands-on experience designing industrial utility systems
Deep experience designing: steam, chilled water, heating hot water, compressed air, natural gas, and plumbing systems
Proven experience owning projects from concept through commissioning
Strong working knowledge of industrial codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
Comfortable working in active manufacturing and construction environments
Highly collaborative, practical, and solution-oriented mindset

Preferred

Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, chemical, or regulated manufacturing
PE license or ability to obtain licensure
Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, PipeFlo, or similar tools
HVAC experience in addition to utility systems
Experience with sustainability or energy optimization projects
