Responsibilities

Advanced Device Racking & Mounting
Interpret and execute Rack Elevation Diagrams (REDs) for mounting high-density chassis (Cisco Nexus 9000, Catalyst 9500) and 1U/2U appliances
Ensure mechanical safety using appropriate rack rails, cage nuts, and stabilization kits
Manage rack weight distribution to maintain structural integrity
Perform proper power sequencing, connecting dual power supplies to diverse A/B PDU feeds and conducting pull tests to verify secure connections
Structured Cabling & Fiber Management
Handle Single-Mode (SMF) and Multi-Mode (MMF) fiber with expert-level proficiency
Clean and inspect fiber connectors using IBC cleaners and fiber inspection scopes
Install and manage SFP, SFP+, QSFP+, and QSFP28 transceivers
Troubleshoot link issues by verifying wavelength compatibility (e.g., 850nm vs 1310nm) and optical power levels
Perform high-density patching and labeling in compliance with ANSI/TIA-606-B standards, ensuring accurate Near-End and Far-End identification
Patch Panels & Cross-Connects
Coordinate with Telco providers to extend circuits from the Meet-Me Room (MMR) to local racks
Terminate and manage copper (RJ45) and fiber (LC, SC, MPO) patch panels
Conduct light checks using Visual Fault Locators (VFLs) to trace fiber paths across multiple patch points
Deploy and troubleshoot media converters or transceivers when transitioning between different media types
Remote Management & Console Access
Configure and cable Out-of-Band (OOB) access using terminal servers (Opengear, Lantronix, Cisco ISR)
Troubleshoot serial connectivity issues, including baud rate mismatches, rollover cables, and DB9-to-RJ45 adapters
Provide local support using laptops and USB-to-serial adapters to stream live boot logs or assist with BIOS-level troubleshooting
Advanced Routing & Switching Knowledge
Layer 1 (Physical)
Strong hands-on experience with Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, serial and fiber cabling
Expertise with transceivers (SFP, SFP+, QSFP+, QSFP28), PIC, NIM, DPC, HA ports, power supplies, and patching
Experience with 10/20/40/100G fiber links and basic understanding of DWDM technologies
Layer 2 (Switching)
Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, VTP, STP, port mirroring, and packet captures
Identify and resolve physical loops, broadcast storms, and connectivity issues at the rack level
Layer 3 (Routing)
Assist with Layer 3 interface bring-up (SVIs and routed ports)
Verify IP addressing, prefix lengths, and gateway connectivity
Validate routing protocol adjacencies (BGP, OSPF) after circuit handoffs or cross-connect installations
Provision and troubleshoot EtherChannel / LACP configurations, ensuring physical cabling matches logical port assignments

Required

6–8 years in data center or large enterprise/campus network environments
Hands-on experience installing Ethernet and fiber cabling on Cisco, Arista, Palo Alto, and F5 load balancers, including associated components (SFP, PIC, NIM, DPC)
Ability to navigate Cisco IOS, NX-OS, PAN-OS, and Arista EOS for show commands and basic configurations
Proficiency with Visual Fault Locators (VFLs), Optical Power Meters, and Fiber Inspection Scopes
Experience supporting mission-critical network incidents in large enterprise and data center environments is preferred
CCNA or equivalent – Mandatory
