Responsibilities
Provide 24x7 operational support for AWS RDS SQL Server environments, including production systems
Perform routine database administration: health checks, monitoring, patching, index management, capacity planning
Monitor and analyze database performance using Dynatrace and AWS CloudWatch; identify issues and drive remediation
Collaborate with development teams to optimize poorly performing processes during incidents
Execute database backup/restore operations for environment refreshes and disaster recovery
Design, implement, and document disaster recovery processes and testing
Automate DBA tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, and AWS-native tools
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and SOX, including auditing and access controls
Participate in on-call rotation, providing after-hours support as needed
Develop and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and recovery procedures
Work with platform and cloud engineering teams utilizing Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
Support database deployments and changes using tools like Liquibase
Leverage strong skills in T-SQL, PowerShell, AWS services (CloudWatch, Lambda, SNS/SQS), and data integration (SSIS, Glue)
Troubleshoot performance issues in large, highly available, and regulated SQL Server environments
Maintain strong documentation and operational detail orientation
Qualification
Required
15+ years of experience in DevOps Engineer role at Architect Level
Provide 24x7 operational support for AWS RDS SQL Server environments, including production systems
Perform routine database administration: health checks, monitoring, patching, index management, capacity planning
