Assistant District Attorney - Virtual Currency Unit

The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced prosecutor to join the Virtual Currency Unit (VCU) focused on investigating and prosecuting criminal offenses involving cryptocurrency. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to analyze allegations, develop cases, and educate the public on cryptocurrency-related crimes.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and virtual currency analysts to analyze allegations of criminal violations of New York State and local laws
Use blockchain data analytics and traditional law enforcement techniques to investigate and prosecute complex matters involving virtual currencies
Assist in the development of the VCU to investigate and prosecute criminal activity involving cryptocurrency
Research cutting edge legal issues related to the prosecution and seizure of cryptocurrency
Draft subpoenas, court orders, search and seizure warrants, indictments, and other legal pleadings
Present cases to the grand jury and develop cases for trial
Serve as a subject matter expert in cryptocurrency and advise KCDA staff in developing relevant office policies, documents, and templates
Work with other bureaus and units to enhance KCDA’s ability to trace and recover virtual currency assets
Lead training and presentations in the office and throughout Brooklyn to educate staff and the public about the dangers of scams and crimes related to virtual currency
Build and enhance relationships with law enforcement officers and agencies pursuing cryptocurrency cases
Collaborate with private sector actors with expertise in cryptocurrency matters to further VCU’s criminal enforcement mission

Preferred

Candidates must be admitted to the New York bar, U.S. Citizens and obtain New York State Residency by the time of their hire
Familiarity with blockchain technology
A strong desire to focus on new and emerging crimes involving cryptocurrency
Experience investigating criminal matters involving complex law enforcement techniques
Three years' experience is preferred
