Osmose Utilities is seeking to fill multiple Safety Specialist I roles as part of a growing company and safety team. The Safety Specialist I will work collaboratively to improve safety performance and support the Osmose Safety Management Program across various business lines.

Responsibilities

Maintain knowledge of company, customer, and regulatory requirements and industry best practices
Maintain regular on-site presence at worksites to conduct and document safety observations, inspections, and audits. Provide personnel with on-the-spot constructive feedback and coaching to improve knowledge, understanding, behaviors, and performance. Work with crew personnel and supervision to correct identified issues
Mentor operations supervision and management on safety requirements, safe work practices, safety observations, coaching, and auditing
Answer and respond to phone calls related to safety incidents and issues, including providing first aid advice and guidance (participate in on-call rotation, which includes nights and weekends)
Assist with development and delivery of safety-related communications (alerts, bulletins, live calls and webinars, videos), safety meetings, and safety training
Participate in pre-project planning and safety reviews to identify hazards, risks, requirements, and controls, and develop site safety plans and training
Monitor and audit compliance with site safety plan requirements. Periodically review and recommend needed revisions to plan
Provide safety orientation, oversight, and auditing of subcontractors
Conduct and document incident investigations, identify causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions. Assist with the development and sharing of incident learnings
Identify and share best practices
Attend customer meetings, and facilitate or participate in customer visits to worksites
Monitor safety performance metrics and trends (leading and lagging indicators), and recommend and support proactive and corrective actions to improve
Achieve and maintain 'competent person' status in construction-related areas, such as equipment operation, excavations, rigging, and fall protection

Required

Associate's (two-year) degree
Three (3) or more years of safety experience in utility, field service, or construction industry
Must have experience in industrial and/or construction safety, including hazard recognition, accident investigation, and root cause analysis, as well as a strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulatory requirements related to electric power and construction
Experienced and adept at coaching employees, working with difficult people, and resolving difficult situations
Valid state driver's license
May require use of personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided)
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams
Must demonstrate strong recordkeeping and reporting skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to communicate clearly with employees, supervisors, management, and customers and produce well-written, professional documentation is required
Must be authorized to work in US without sponsorship

Preferred

Bachelor's degree preferred
In possession or on track to obtain recognized safety credential(s), including but not limited to: Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Tree Care Safety Professional (CTSP), Construction Site Safety Technician (CSST), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Certified Occupational Safety Manager (COSM), Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS), OSHA 510 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry, OSHA 511 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry
