Responsibilities

Velocity model building for complex geological settings
Seismic processing & imaging workflows (time-lapse/4D, depth imaging, elastic imaging)
Full-waveform inversion (FWI) —including elastic and anisotropic applications
Quantitative interpretation and subsurface uncertainty evaluation
Advancing novel imaging technologies and automation within Shell’s workflows
Building and validating high-resolution velocity models
Supporting 3D and 4D seismic imaging projects
Applying advanced algorithms (e.g., ML-assisted processing, wave-equation imaging, elastic FWI)
Working with large-scale compute environments and modern processing software
Learning Shell’s best practices in seismic acquisition, processing, imaging, and interpretation
Engaging with mentors with deep expertise in geophysics and computational techniques
Building a network across disciplines such as geology, petrophysics, and reservoir engineering

Required

Actively enrolled student with at least one remaining semester post‑internship
Minimum 3.20 GPA
Studying Geophysics, Earth Science, Applied Math, Physics, or related field
Strong foundation in seismic processing, imaging, inversion, or wave propagation
Skills in Python/Matlab/C++ and numerical methods are a plus
Must meet U.S. work authorization requirements (see original eligibility criteria)
