Videographer, Vertical Short-Form Video Ad (Mandarin Required)
Avia is seeking a hands-on videographer with a strong instinct for producing short-form vertical videos for mobile game ads targeting overseas markets. The role involves on-set execution, collaboration with directors, and a performance-driven mindset to enhance click-through and conversion rates.
Responsibilities
Support scheduled shoots 4–5 days per week, coordinating closely with directors and actors on set
Operate in a high-output environment, producing approximately 10 short-form narrative ads per day (up to ~60s each)
Ensure strong vertical framing, camera movement, and on-set efficiency tailored to short-form ad formats
Deeply understand creative intent and short-form script structure
Use lighting, camera angles, and actor emotion guidance to ensure each video meets the intended narrative and performance goals
Manage daily footage organization and backups, clearly labeled by script or project ID
Ensure post-production teams receive complete, usable, and high-quality footage with no gaps that would impact editing output
Regularly review top-performing videos from a cinematography perspective
Identify and apply patterns such as opening hooks (e.g., first 3 seconds), framing choices, and pacing that contribute to strong ad performance
Translate insights from performance data into future shoots
Qualification
Required
Education or training in film, media, cinematography, directing, or a related field
Genuine interest in short-form advertising and hands-on shooting experience (short-form, social, or commercial)
Strong familiarity with North American short-form video styles on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook
Proficient with flexible cinema cameras such as Sony FX3 / FX6, and comfortable switching to iPhone-based setups when needed
Able to work with lightweight, efficient lighting setups suited for fast-paced shoots
Fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese
Able to read scripts in both languages and accurately translate creative intent into clear, natural, on-set direction in English, ensuring smooth communication with cast and crew
Strong understanding of how footage will be used in post-production; shoots with editing flow in mind
Able to adapt quickly to unexpected challenges (location changes, weather, actor availability, etc.)
Comfortable iterating on shooting approaches based on creative feedback and performance learnings
Preferred
Experience with vertical feed ads or short-form narrative content is a strong plus; portfolio samples are preferred
