Principal/Sr. Principal Engineer Manufacturing
Northrop Grumman is a trusted provider of mission-enabling solutions for global security, seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support the manufacturing and testing of marine propulsion and power generation systems. The role involves developing and improving manufacturing processes, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and managing production area layouts and work instructions.

Responsibilities
Develop new processes, improve existing manufacturing processes, and develop the required tooling and fixtures with an excellent team of experienced assembly mechanics, machinists, welders and engineers
Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the manufacturing environment
Develop efficient process flows and sequences of operations, optimized production area layouts, manage bills of materials, create detailed work instructions, process procedures and tooling requirements with emphasis on safety, foreign object elimination and equipment/system maintenance
Support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of new capital equipment for establishing expanded production processes
Select roles will also support final acceptance testing of product and provide technical support to test facility operation as necessary
The ability to support multiple production shifts is required (first, second, third shifts, and weekends) based on the assignment and current and future production schedules
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 3 or more years of relevant work experience
Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Experience with mechanical assembly processes
Experience in continuous improvement
Experience in technical writing
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
US Citizenship
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 6 or more years of relevant work experience
Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Experience with mechanical assembly processes
Experience in continuous improvement
Experience in technical writing
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
US Citizenship
Preferred
Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering
Active Secret Clearance
Experience with propulsion and power plant machinery or experience building large equipment structures
Experience with GDT control plan development and execution
Experience utilizing a modern ERP system
Manufacturing equipment, product testing and facility operational experience
Experience leading technical projects requiring project planning, scheduling, resource identification and financial management
Experience with new product introduction
Experience with applying Lean Six Sigma principles on low volume, high mix processes
Experience leading technical projects requiring project planning, scheduling, resource identification and financial management
Experience with installation of new equipment and or processing in a highly controlled environment
Experience with materials and heat treatment of materials
