LEAD ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN

The Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) is dedicated to leading the Department of Defense in finance and accounting. The Lead Accounting Technician will oversee workload distribution among team members, ensure compliance with Accounts Payable policies, and verify the accuracy of various financial documents.

Responsibilities

Serves as a Work Leader by identifying, distributing, and balancing workload and tasks to team members in accordance with established workflow, and assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload
Reviews documents to ensure accuracy and adherence to Accounts Payable policy and procedures
Researches Accounts Payable data and performs balancing and reconciling of accounts
Utilizes the Electronic Document Management (EDM) and appropriate entitlement system to access a variety of documents including invoices, receiving reports, and procurement documents for payments
Verifies the accuracy, completeness, and validity of a wide variety of Accounts Payable documents including: contracts; invoices; purchase orders; obligations

Suitable for Federal employment
Obtain/Maintain Financial Management Certification
Applicants MUST have related financial experience AND/OR a related financial degree (examples include: Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related)
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the (GS-05) federal service
Specialized experience is defined as: validating, monitoring, and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records; entering accounting data into an automated financial system to process a wide variety of accounting transactions; reconciling subsidiary ledgers to general ledgers for accounts
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
