Responsibilities

Develop 3D design models, calculations, sketches, plans, and estimates for various transportation improvement projects under the supervision of an experienced engineer
Analyze data from surveys, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction
Assist with the development of technologies, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, transportation vehicles/systems, and incorporate future-ready solutions with civil engineering design standards
Verify the characteristics of a site and provide technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues
Assist with technical reports, which could include summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using calculations, electronic systems, spreadsheets, and software
Assist technical staff with writing/reviewing design training manuals and workflow documentation to further advance the engineering industry
Assist technical staff and project managers with risk identification and assessment, offering input and analysis with design concepts, construction, mitigation and improvement activities, and remediation projects
Perform basic professional civil engineering work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits
Work collaboratively as part of a multi-discipline team of engineers to execute project work on various projects
Complete training on assigned tasks
Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Required

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
1 to 3 years of experience in transportation and infrastructure projects
Experience with design teams on FDOT and municipal projects (highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, and structure design)
Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues
Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies
Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools
Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, OpenRoads)
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Preferred

Fundamentals in Engineering Certification (EI/EIT)
Prior Design Experience
Experience with FDOT and/or Ports projects
