SENIOR PLAN ANALYST (Structural)

The City of Houston is seeking a Senior Plan Analyst to work within the Houston Permitting Center's Code Enforcement/Plan Review section. The role involves structural review and analysis of construction documents to ensure compliance with various code ordinances and regulations, as well as providing feedback and meeting with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Provides structural review, analysis, research, and interpretation of construction documents to ensure compliance with various code ordinances and regulations
Examines and reviews construction documents to enforce code compliance and local ordinance
Ensures that construction meets the International Residential and Building codes, ordinances and technical specifications, various duties that include, but are not limited to the following
Approves plans that satisfactorily meet code requirements under supervision of Plan Analyst Supervisor
Writes requirements for plans that fail to satisfactorily meet code requirements under supervision of Plan Analyst Supervisor
Provides written feedback related to the findings
Meets with general-public, contractors, technical professionals, and businesses to respond to inquiries and technical problems
Researches and evaluates plans, specifications, and drawings

Building plan examiner certificationICC building code experienceReviewing construction documentsBuilding design experienceDrafting experienceArchitectural construction experienceEngineering construction experienceCommunication skills

Required

Requires a related Associate's degree, such as Building Inspection, or the equivalent
Two years of skilled, journey level experience in building trades, inspection or plan examining (which could include experience as a Permit Specialist) in the area of analysis to be performed are required
May require a valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2)
Must obtain one of the following certifications within 11 months of employment: ICC Building Plans Examiner Residential or ICC Building Plans Examiner Commercial

Preferred

Valid commercial and/or residential building plan examiner certification(s)
(ICC) building code experience
Experience reviewing commercial and residential plans; including reading construction documents and plans
Experience in building design, drafting, architectural and engineer construction, and building construction

Benefits

Eligible for award up to $300.00, upon completion of 24 months employment
Eligible for incentive of up to $1000.00, upon submission of qualifying receipts
Eligible for annual incentives of up to $3900.00, upon acquisition of eligible certifications and after completing 6 months on the job
Salary adjusted by 4.4% upon completion of 24 months of employment
Salary adjusted by 2.0% upon completion of 36 months of employment
