Head of Data Science, Electrophysiology Analytics (Founding Leadership)
NEXI Biotech is an inception-stage neurotechnology startup pioneering next-generation human neural circuit platforms for translational drug discovery. The Head of Data Science, Electrophysiology Analytics will be responsible for defining how electrophysiological data is represented, interpreted, and validated across NEXI’s platform, serving as the technical authority for neural data interpretation and setting analytical standards.
Biotechnology
Responsibilities
Define analytical frameworks for high-density electrophysiology data, including spike-based and network-level features
Establish standards for signal preprocessing, artifact handling, normalization, and quality control
Guide interpretation of temporal dynamics, synchrony, delay, and modulation in neural circuits
Ensure analytical approaches remain biologically grounded and experimentally faithful
Lead development of functional connectivity metrics and graph-based representations of neural circuits
Define how directionality, causality, and regional organization are captured analytically
Establish approaches for comparing baseline vs perturbed network states (e.g., pharmacology, disease models)
Set expectations for reproducibility and cross-experiment comparability
Define how electrophysiological features are abstracted into digital phenotypic signatures
Guide development of consistent representations that support stratification, comparison, and longitudinal tracking
Ensure phenotypes remain interpretable and aligned with translational relevance
Oversee integration of experimental metadata (cell type, region, configuration, treatment, timepoint) into analytical outputs
Ensure physical system architecture and experimental design are reflected appropriately in analytics
Collaborate closely with biology and hardware teams to align interpretation with reality
Establish internal standards for analytics, validation, and documentation
Guide development of reference datasets and analytical benchmarks
Contribute to long-term analytics roadmap and hiring strategy
Support technical discussions with collaborators, partners, and funding agencies as appropriate
