Responsibilities

Design and build scalable backend services using TypeScript/Node.js and Python/FastAPI
Own our data layer: Firestore, PostgreSQL, Redis
Build and maintain AI/LLM integrations (LangChain, OpenAI, Anthropic)
Design identity and data systems that put users in control
Build APIs that power real-time features and agent-to-agent collaboration
Prepare systems for scale (100M+ users) with proper partitioning, caching, and security
Collaborate directly with founders in a high-ownership environment
Wear many hats when needed, but go deep on backend

Required

7+ years backend engineering experience
Strong TypeScript/Node.js (Express, Zod, Prisma) and/or Python (FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy)
Experience with LLM/AI integrations (prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG)
Familiarity with Firebase/Firestore
Proven track record taking systems from prototype to production at scale
Solid API design skills (REST, real-time/WebSocket)
Interest in identity systems, privacy-preserving technologies, or data sovereignty
Comfortable with ambiguity—can make decisions and ship fast
Strong communication and collaboration skills across product, design, and engineering
Values building humane, privacy-first products and a healthy team culture

Preferred

Background with AWS (ECS Fargate, RDS, ElastiCache) or GCP
Cryptography, distributed systems, or privacy tech experience
Experience with LLM/AI integrations in product
Experience using AI coding agents like Cursor or Claude Code
Early-stage startup experience
