Interior Designer - Project Execution
Consertus is a global capital program management and advisory firm, and they are seeking an experienced Interior Designer to support the Los Angeles Unified School District's Facilities Services Division. The role involves evaluating furniture needs, developing space plans, and ensuring compliance with safety and sustainability standards for school projects.

Responsibilities
Confer with clients to evaluate FF&E needs and develop efficient solutions within budget, schedule, and standards
Develop space plans and interior architectural layouts; select furnishings, equipment, and interior finishes for schools in accordance with District and industry standards
Participate in the development of District design specifications, including interior finish and electrical requirements; provide detailed furniture and equipment cost estimates to design teams
Review and evaluate construction documents and visit project sites to confirm that space plans, design concepts, and selected furniture/equipment are safe, functional, aesthetically appropriate, and compliant with applicable requirements including: Fire and life safety codes, Accessibility/ADA, Environmental and sustainability guidelines
Plan and conduct meetings and site visits to evaluate and review project needs and status
Advise school personnel and Facilities staff regarding the selection and procurement of furniture, equipment, interior layouts, and finishes
Supervise assigned projects by coordinating with staff responsible for logistics and procurement to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
Develop, schedule, coordinate, review, and receive furniture and equipment orders
Provide furniture and equipment specifications and scope to support creation of procurement contracts
Consult with manufacturers and vendors regarding custom products; recommend improvements and best-value solutions for District needs
Prepare detailed reports and records for furniture and equipment provisioning
Manage and update lists of furniture, equipment, manufacturers, and vendors used by the District
Create interior drawings and visual aids for review and approval
Make recommendations regarding procedures, guidelines, and product standards for furniture and equipment
Assist sites with replacement of furniture and equipment
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Minimum 8 years full-time paid professional experience conceptualizing, planning, selecting, and coordinating interior layouts, interior building finishes, furniture, and equipment
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor's degree (preferably in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field); OR Completion of 40 semester units (or equivalent) related to interior design from a recognized college or university and an additional 2 years of experience to compensate for education
Proficiency with: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, Bluebeam
Knowledge of applicable building codes, ADA, and fire/life safety codes as they relate to furniture and equipment
Understanding of principles of interior design
Understanding of furniture and equipment specification (educational facilities preferred)
Understanding of space planning principles, practices, and techniques
Understanding of color theory and its application in interior design
Understanding of timeline and budget preparation
Understanding of basic scheduling, procurement, and business data processing
Understanding of project management principles, practices, and techniques
Understanding of professional interior design studio practices
Ability to plan/design interior spaces and specify furniture
Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, drawings, and specifications
Ability to operate major CAD systems such as AutoCAD and Revit
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to create and deliver professional presentations to clients/stakeholders
Ability to work effectively with FIG staff, Facilities personnel, and school administrators/staff
Ability to operate a computer and associated peripherals
Ability to commute to jobsites and facilities as needed
Preferred
Experience working in a public agency and/or school construction or modernization environment (preferred)
