Responsibilities
Design and develop laser systems that generate short-duration, high-energy pulses of light
Develop and test laser components, including laser cavities, mirrors, and amplifiers, to withstand high-energy pulses
Collaborate with optical, electrical, and mechanical engineers to integrate laser systems with larger systems
Conduct research and development activities to explore new technologies and techniques for improving high-energy laser systems
Plan and oversee the manufacturing, installation, and operation of laser systems
Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure products meet industry standards and MagLIF requirements
Perform cost analysis and create project timelines to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget
Write technical reports and deliver presentations to communicate design concepts, testing results, and project progress to internal and external stakeholders
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Optics, Optoelectronics, Laser Physics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field
2+ years of experience in high-energy laser design, analysis, and testing
2+ years of experience with laser amplification techniques
2+ years of experience with laser modeling, simulation, and design software
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Willingness to travel occasionally
Ability to travel and work extended hours or weekends as needed
Must meet U.S. export compliance requirements (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible under ITAR)
