Payroll Accountant

LHH is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Accountant to support payroll operations, accounts payable, and general ledger functions. The role involves processing payroll, ensuring compliance with payroll tax regulations, and managing the full lifecycle of invoices while maintaining accurate financial records.

Responsibilities

Process payroll accurately and timely, including manual review and auditing of timecards
Audit timecards to ensure:
Correct job coding
Proper labor classification
Accurate hours, overtime, and prevailing wage compliance
Manage prevailing wage payroll, including verification of wage rates and supporting documentation
Review, reconcile, and submit payroll taxes, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements
Prepare payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations
Serve as a payroll subject-matter expert and point of contact for payroll-related questions
Understand and manage the full lifecycle of an invoice, including:
Purchase order creation and matching
Invoice review, coding, approval, and posting
Resolution of discrepancies
Work with vendors to resolve billing issues and inquiries
Maintain accurate AP records and supporting documentation
Perform daily cash posting and bank reconciliations
Prepare and post general ledger entries
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances
Assist with month-end and year-end close
Support internal and external audits as needed

Required

5+ years of experience in accounting and payroll
Demonstrated experience with timecard auditing
Demonstrated experience with prevailing wage payroll
Demonstrated experience with payroll tax calculations and filings
Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls
Must have experience with in house payroll
Solid knowledge of accounts payable and purchase order processes
High attention to detail and accuracy

Preferred

Experience in construction, public works, or industries subject to prevailing wage laws
ERP or accounting system experience
Audit or compliance support experience
