They are seeking a Full-Time Environmental Planning Intern for Summer 2026 to assist in assessing the environmental impacts of various projects and support the development of environmental evaluations and reports.

Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, assist with preparing NEPA environmental assessments and environmental impact statements, impact assessments, environmental survey reports, data entry, and permitting documentation for assigned tasks (e.g., NEPA, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act permitting, nuclear licensing, etc.)
Understanding of impact assessment methodologies and excellent scientific research and/or writing skills
Under general supervision, assist with field and desktop collection, identification, and compilation of observational, spatial, operations, and environmental data from multiple matrices for projects, research, and surveys
Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, demographics, patterns and trends, and statistical analysis of environmental data
Assist with performing basic professional environmental planning work relating to ecological systems, habitats, air, and water resources, assisting with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing entry-level technical assistance on various environmental issues
Utilize the latest technologies and techniques in performing studies and analysis of habitats, sites, and potential impacts to the health of the environment and the population
Support preparation for and participation in client meetings and public information meetings; organize public comment databases; review and respond to public comments
Ability to complete training and meet project schedules on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Required

Actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Biological Science, Geology, Water Resources, Natural Resources, or a related field with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Must be 18 or older
Demonstrated interest in Environmental Planning or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects
Competent interpersonal and communications skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spread sheets, technology, and tools
Analytical skills, and familiarity with research techniques, local/regional ecology and habitats, and applicable Regional/State/Federal regulatory framework
Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
Familiarity with office automation and communication software, technology, and document formatting and management (i.e., Microsoft, Adobe Professional, Google Earth)
Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
Possible overnight travel and/or field survey work may be required depending on project-specific requirements
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Preferred

Experience in Environmental Consulting or Planning is preferred
Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus
