Cyber Specialist

Responsibilities
Conducting risk analysis, security tests/evaluations and supporting Computer Security Incident Handling efforts
Determine actions required for all DoD payloads office computer systems to meet NASA and/or DoD IA policies including latest security updates
Determine actions required to ensure computers and networking equipment meet DoD IA policies, including latest security updates
Identify security gaps, or findings of vulnerability; assist in developing and executing Plan of Action and Milestones
Support all DoD payloads office computer systems and networks, including but not limited to the following activities:
Applies knowledge of IA policy, procedures, and workforce structure to develop, implement, and maintain multiple secure network environments for all space and information systems (satellite, ground, and launch)
Perform annual self-assessments and support external assessments of all security plans
Continually identify non-compliance to determine their impact on levels of risk and/or overall effectiveness of the IA program
Actual hands-on cyber compliance experience, including:
Tracking down implementation details
Writing security plan, contingency plan, risk assessment – and applying results
Managing Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) & Risk-Based Decisions (RBDs)
Shepherd an authorization package through the A&A process
Sustain cyber authorization for existing systems
Participate in payload meetings such as the preliminary design review, critical design review and technical interchange meetings, especially with respect to satellite ground system architecture
Some travel may be required to KSC, payload customer locations, and other NASA or DoD locations; international travel could be included. This travel is not frequent but can be several days at a time
Qualification
Required
CISSP Certification or ability to acquire within 6 months of employment
Recent RMF experience – specifically related to DoD strongly desired
Must have US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
Current or ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance
At least 5 years of experience with the NASA and/or DoD IT Security environment; knowledge of associated requirements and implementation of security controls
Must have a BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Information Technology/Systems, or related field from an accredited college, university or technical institute and at least 10 years of overall experience in the field
Knowledge of or experience with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) compliance (i.e. 800-171, 800-53)
Knowledge of or experience with Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance (i.e. 199, 200)
Knowledge of the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (NICE Framework) (NIST Special Publication 800-181, revision 1) and the building blocks describing the tasks, knowledge, and skills that are needed to perform cybersecurity work performed by individuals and teams
Certified per DoD 8570.1 Approved Baseline Certifications for Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II, Security +, or able to obtain certification within 12 months of hire
Experience with configuration of Windows operating systems and software for PCs
Must have the ability to analytically solve problems that may arise and determine preventative measures; must have excellent troubleshooting skills
Good written and verbal communications skills, and ability to work in a team environment
A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans
Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
Preferred
Recent eMASS experience strongly desired
Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent
Experience with Linux operating systems
Recent COMSEC experience
Recent experience using/accrediting a SCIF
JWICS and SIPR Accreditation Knowledge
Experience with scripting and automation tools
Experience with Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems, and Microsoft Office tools
