Staff Development Specialist/UKHC

Inside Higher Ed is seeking a Staff Development Specialist for the Oncology Service line at the University of Kentucky. The role involves overseeing education and staff development for hospital nursing staff, onboarding new clinical nursing staff, and managing ongoing competency and professional development of nurses.

Responsibilities

Develops implements and evaluates educational strategies and programs
Identifies trends in patient outcomes to determine performance improvement activities
Provides support and clinical expertise to facilitate/coordinate progress toward meeting performance improvement goals
Integrates research, evidence based knowledge of nursing and resource management into practice environment
Participates in the development of health care policy and related education within the institution and community
Assists in facilitating transition to practice for the new graduate
Serves as a clinical resource and change agent
Demonstrates excellent leadership, teaching, interpersonal skills and an understanding of organization and systems

Required

MSN or Master's Degree in related field with accompanying Baccalaureate in Nursing
3 years
Active Kentucky RN or compact state RN license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), or active compact state RN license that is in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider valid for at least 6 months after employment
The essential functions for this position include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis and 25-50 pounds frequently; as well as stand, walk and sit for long periods of time
The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments
Day shift primarily, but other shifts and weekends as needed to meet the needs of the department

Preferred

MSN and 3 years Oncology experience preferred
Previous experience as an educator preferred
