Responsibilities

Lead the design and implementation of data governance and metadata management solutions using Alation and other data catalog tools

Provide metadata management expertise to enhance capabilities for delivering a complete view of organizational data

Assess current metadata processes and platforms, offering improvement recommendations

Partner with Business and IT to define the metadata management vision, strategy, roadmap, and implementation approach

Develop system and data architecture, including trade-off analysis, and recommend tooling/vendors

Provide thought leadership, frameworks, best practices, and subject matter expertise required to deliver effective data governance and management solutions to clients

Conduct or participate in meetings, workshops, and interviews with business and IT stakeholders to understand current state data governance and management maturity and pain points in support of building a future strategy and roadmap

Identify, document, and prioritize use cases that will support the strategy and roadmap

Translate business and technical requirements into designs, oversee the implementation, and validate outcomes with users

Support establishing an operating model aligned with a data governance operating model

Assess, recommend, and implement capabilities related to business and technical metadata, data lineage, data profiling, data quality improvement efforts, and issue/request management

Develop and deliver metagovernance recommendations

Design automated and bulk upload metadata import/export methods

Develop and deliver training materials, use case and asset model documentation, as well as implementation specifications

Recommend curation processes for high-quality content

Manage client relationships, set expectations, and deliver project status reports

Required

BA/BS or advanced degree in Business, Computer Science, MIS, or a related field, or equivalent work experience

5+ years of data management experience, preferably in a consulting environment

Proven experience with Alation or other data catalog tools

In-depth knowledge of data governance and data management concepts, approaches, and tools and the role of data governance in the successful implementation of data strategy

Proficiency in SQL and experience with multiple databases

Experience with Linux administration, single sign-on, and authentication configuration with LDAP and Active Directory

Proficiency in Python or Java, with experience using REST APIs

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure

Excellent presentation, facilitation, verbal, and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting personal agendas

Preferred

Solution Architect certification is a plus

Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) is a plus
