Responsibilities

Support the development of the next generation fast attack submarine
Responsible for the concept design, development, and execution of complex machinery systems, including payload handling, launch, and recovery; towed systems; sail machinery; and other systems in the non-propulsion plant areas of the submarine
Provide technical leadership and mentorship of the team
Coordinate with Navy counterparts and NNS management
Manage task budgets and staffing levels
Establish and reflect an expectation for first time quality in the products their team produces

Required

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program

Preferred

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal to support the presentation of technical briefs to the government and team leadership
Knowledge of submarine machinery and mechanical systems and their interfaces with the structural, electrical and hydraulic systems
Experience in traditional and computer based methodologies for the design and analysis of components
Display a level of professionalism in conduct and communication
Operational experience on commissioned or under construction Navy vessels is a plus
