The Service Forester will provide professional oversight and expertise in forest management, including data collection, management plan writing, and emergency response.

Responsibilities

Collecting and analyzing forest data to provide technical advice to landowners

Writing management plans for non-industrial private forest landowners

Interacts with consulting foresters, as well as other professional state and local government land managers for forestry related technical assistance

Conducting environmental compliance inspections for regulations related to forestry activities

Responds in times of emergency such as wildland fires and natural disasters

Required

Bachelor's degree in forestry from a Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited institution; or registered by the North Carolina Board of Registration for Foresters; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge of the principles and practices of forest management

Knowledge of collecting and analyzing forestry data

Proficient in Microsoft Office

Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats

Ability to be self-motivated, a team player, and able to remain calm under stress

Must be available after working hours during fire danger periods and times of emergency response

Overnight travel will be required
