Responsibilities

Receives blood samples delivered by mail, FedEx, courier, etc
Assigns a unique barcode to each specimen and prepares samples for testing
Separates blood from serum using a centrifuge
Reviews incoming paperwork for accuracy and completeness and resolves any issues related to samples or documentation
Communicates with clients including other labs, doctors’ offices, Norris Medical Center, and Keck Medical Center
Provides excellent customer service
Maintains a high level of attention to detail, as improper handling or mislabeling can have serious consequences
Does not perform data entry related to sample processing (handled by a related team)
Must be proficient in MS Excel and MS Word
Prepares patient past sheets and verifies patient records
Performs data entry tasks
Assists with patient billing documentation
Distributes patient reports via fax, email, or mail
Handles general administrative tasks supporting lab workflow
Organizes, archives, and retrieves samples from freezers
Monitors and records temperatures in storage units
Assists with instrument maintenance and routine inventory checks
Prepares and ships supply orders to clients
Performs routine lab duties and general clean-up as needed

Required

Will be trained and required to follow lab policies and procedures including exposure control, chemical hazards, quality control, and quality assurance programs
Completes documentation thoroughly and organizes work efficiently
Reliable commuting and punctual arrival are required

Preferred

Experience or knowledge in a medical office or laboratory environment (minimum 12 months preferred; school or volunteer experience acceptable)
BA/BS degree not required
