Responsibilities
Drive system-level development and integration across:
Sample preparation
Library preparation
Molecular detection technologies (e.g., sequencing, digital PCR, microarrays)
Data processing and bioinformatics pipelines
Perform hands-on system integration and troubleshooting across wet lab workflows and instrumentation
Partner with assay, software, hardware, and bioinformatics teams to ensure seamless end-to-end workflow integration
Contribute to system architecture and requirements definition
Apply statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies (e.g., JMP, ANOVA, regression) to optimize system performance and define specifications
Plan, design, and execute verification and validation (V&V) test cases
Analyze test results for accuracy, validity, and relevance to user needs
Support post-launch troubleshooting and field investigations
Conduct failure mode analysis and root cause investigations
Represent Systems Engineering in cross-functional project teams
Collaborate closely with assay scientists, software developers, hardware engineers, and bioinformaticians
Contribute to system documentation including requirements, specifications, integration plans, and V&V reports
Identify and lead opportunities for workflow simplification, automation, and continuous improvement
Influence technical decisions without formal people management responsibilities
Qualification
Required
Degree in Systems Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
One of the following: PhD with 5+ years of relevant industry experience
Master's degree with 10+ years of relevant industry experience
Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant industry experience
Hands-on industry experience with sequencing-related workflows, including: Nucleic acid extraction, Library preparation, Sequencing
Proven lab troubleshooting experience in sequencing and PCR-based workflows
Required experience with statistical tools and DoE methodologies (JMP, regression, ANOVA)
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently while influencing cross-functional teams
Preferred
Exposure to bioinformatics and sequencing data pipelines (variant calling, QC)
Experience with life sciences instrumentation product development
Experience across multiple product lifecycle stages
Experience with: Digital PCR platforms
In-vitro diagnostic (IVD) product development
Semiconductor-based sensing or microfluidic devices
Scripting or programming experience (Python, R, or similar)
