Graduate Intern - Budget

The City of Grand Prairie is seeking an Intern to gain hands-on experience in budgeting and finance. Responsibilities include preparing meeting minutes, retrieving and entering financial data in Financial Software, and creating Excel reports.

Responsibilities

Preparing minutes from budget review meetings
Retrieving financial reports using Financial Software
Entering financial data into Financial Software
Preparing monthly financial information and reports
Creating various end-user Excel reports from data extracts
Update reporting package for Budget staff
Special projects as assigned
Assist with other management services departments, including purchasing, audit, and debt management, as needed to gain additional knowledge

Required

Must have a High School Diploma or GED and currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Applicants for this position should be a Junior or Senior Undergraduate or Graduate student in the areas of Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, Finance, or related field
Finance, accounting, and/or statistical classes
Strong Excel skills (Required)
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to prepare accurate and comprehensive meeting minutes
Detail oriented, with the ability to problem solve
Ability to work independently
Capacity to learn proprietary systems quickly
Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills

Benefits

PARS - Public Agency Retirement System: the employee contributes 6.2% each paycheck to this retirement system and the city provides 1.3%. The employee does not pay into Social Security. All of the employees contributions may be withdrawn upon separating service from the city. The City's contributions will not be paid unless the employee retires under the system.
Part time or seasonal employees are not eligible for any paid leave or other benefits.
Part time or seasonal employees are limited to working only 1,000 hours per 12-month period, unless the seasonal is project based for a specific period of time which is typically less than 12-months.
