Payroll Specialist
Aston Carter is working with a great company who is looking to hire a Payroll Specialist to handle their Canadian payroll for the next few months. This role involves processing weekly Canadian payroll for approximately 75 employees while ensuring compliance with payroll regulations and maintaining accuracy in manual workflows.

Responsibilities
Process weekly Canadian payroll for approximately 75 employees with a high degree of accuracy
Enter, validate, and audit employee hours, pay adjustments, overtime, bonuses, and other earnings
Manage manual processes and ensure proper controls and accuracy despite non-automated workflows
Review payroll reports for discrepancies and resolve issues proactively
Use UKG to support timekeeping and payroll workflows
Utilize Workday for employee data, job changes, compensation updates, and reporting
Submit payroll through designated platforms, ensuring correct employee data and pay elements
Collaborate on tax calculations and related inquiries
Maintain compliance with Canadian payroll legislation, provincial regulations, and company policies
Ensure accurate remittance of taxes, benefits, and other statutory deductions
Assist with year-end activities such as T4/T4A generation and maintain payroll records in accordance with audit and retention requirements
Assist in writing, updating, and improving payroll process documentation, SOPs, and checklists
Identify inefficiencies within manual workflows and recommend enhancements
Support payroll audits and internal control initiatives
Work closely with HR, Finance, and department managers to resolve payroll-related questions
Provide timely customer service to employees regarding pay, taxes, or system questions
Qualification
Required
Canadian payroll processing experience is required for the role
Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations
Exceptional attention to detail
Comfort working in a manual, high-accuracy environment
2+ years of payroll experience
Must have Canadian payroll experience
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables
Preferred
Experience with Workday and UKG is preferred
