Wildland Firefighter (Air Tatical Group Supervisor) Coordinator

The USDA Forest Service is seeking a Wildland Firefighter (Air Tactical Group Supervisor) Coordinator to be located at a USDA Forest Service Unit within the Region 4 Intermountain Region. This role involves planning and administering complex aviation operations and directing air tactical operations for fire suppression activities.

Responsibilities

Plans and administers a diverse range of complex aviation field and program operations
Participates in the formulation, development and execution of rappel operations
Directs air tactical operations, provides aerial supervision and establishes priorities for initial attack, extended attack and other aviation duties as required
Evaluates aircraft needs to perform air tactical mission and determines navigation requirements
Coordinates, schedules and assists in the inspection of aviation activities
Evaluates the Regional ATGS program for compliance with program goals and objectives
Evaluates effectiveness of program through Quality Assurance reviews
Develops evaluation techniques and initiates mitigations and corrective actions
Determines the type, amount, and level of information required for the development and analysis of risk management alternatives and decision making
Develops curriculum, coursework preparation, development of training aids, and evaluation criteria for aerial supervision programs such as ATGS, ASM, and HELCO

Required

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served
Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution
Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Must be 18 years of age
This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing
Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable)
Secondary Coverage: Prior wildland firefighting experience is required
Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GW-10 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GW-09). Examples of Specialized Experience: Assisted in implementing helicopter service contracts and enforcing contract provisions; Assisted in aviation program and plan implementation and development; and Directed initial and extended attack suppression actions such as determining incident needs, and dispatch/deployment of personnel and equipment
For the GW-11 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GW-10). Examples of Specialized Experience: Assisted in developing helicopter service contracts and enforcing contract provisions; Assisted in directing and coordinating aviation and helicopter rappel operations in support of fire suppression activities; and Assessed various fire management factors such as aviation, fuels, suppression capability, resistance to control, ignition probability, predicted rate of spread, and flame height and weather
Must be a Qualified Air Tactical Group Supervisor (ATGS)
Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) and Forest Service - Fire Program Management (FS-FPM) qualifications must be met by the time of selection
In order to be considered for this position, copies of your Incident Qualification and Certification System (IQCS) Master Record (or equivalent training documents) which contain documented proof of the certification or attainment of the IFPM Selective Placement Factor for this position MUST be attached to your application
Currency Requirement: Required to maintain currency once hired into the position. Currency of NWCG qualifications is not required for selection
