Wildland Firefighter - Regional Fire Operations Risk Management Officer

The USDA Forest Service is seeking a Wildland Firefighter - Regional Fire Operations Risk Management Officer for their Pacific Southwest Region. This role involves developing and implementing plans and programs in fire and all hazard management risk management, including preparedness, suppression, fuels management, and fire prevention programs.

Responsibilities

The duties of this position are to provide program leadership and direction in fire operations risk management programs for the Pacific Southwest Region Fire and Aviation Management program
The incumbent will plan and coordinate risk management studies and review and analyze regional and national accidents/fatality reports, injuries, and illnesses that result from fire operations
The position formulates policies and guidelines, develops long and short range objectives, establishes priorities, develops plans and programs, budgets, and integrates risk management activities with other resources and programs
The position develops training and/or programs for effective remedial action, to eliminate or strengthen weak areas, and to meet future fire risk management requirements
This position will serve on national teams to develop and revise agency manuals and handbooks that directly relate to wildland fire operations risk management and other duties as assigned

Required

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served
Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution
Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Must be 18 years of age
This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Appointment is based on a negative result
Prior wildland firefighting experience is required
Basic Requirement: GW-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GW-11 grade level
GW-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GW-12 grade level
Selective Placement Factors: The position must have experience serving as a Unit (Forest Level) Fire Program Manager or in a Command & General Staff position on a Type 1 or 2 Incident Management Team
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience
