Wildland Firefighter (Fire Management Specialist-Fuels Planner)
The USDA Forest Service is seeking a Fire Management Specialist (Fuels Planner) to serve in a key fire management position within their field organization. The role involves reviewing and evaluating fuels management plans, conducting fire risk assessments, and participating in fire effects monitoring and training.

Responsibilities
Reviews complex fuels management plans and environmental documents and determined the effects of fire on natural and cultural resources
Evaluates, and modifies fire and fuels management plans for technical adequacy
Provides analysis for wildland fire risk assessments incorporating wildland/urban interface considerations into fire management plans
Participates in pre and post burn fire effects and fuel treatment monitoring
Performs analysis of fire and its use and/or exclusion for smoke management programs to ensure compliance with air quality standards
Identifies training needs and participated in prescribed fire and fuels management, and wildland fire training for fire suppression
Qualification
Required
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served
Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution
Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Must be 18 years of age
This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing
Prior wildland firefighting experience is required
Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable)
Some Fire positions may have Conditions of Employment such as: a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL); pre-appointment and random drug testing; or a physical or medical examination
Degree in Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry, or related discipline appropriate to the position being filled
Specialized Experience Requirement for GW-09 Level: One year specialized experience equivalent to the GW-07 in the Federal service
Specialized Experience Requirement for GW-11 Level: One-year specialized experience equivalent to the GW-09 in the Federal service
